The Lawrence Foundation
Scope: The Lawrence Foundation provides grants to support environmental, education, human services, and other causes.
Deadline: April 30, and Oct. 31.
Funds: In 2008, the foundation awarded
$185,400 in charitable grants. The average grant was $5,000.
Eligibility: 501 (c)(3) organizations, public schools and libraries.
Areas: The distribution of grants in 2008 was 29 percent environment, 29 percent human services, 19 percent education, 10 percent health, and 12 percent other.

The Hoenny Center
Scope: The Hoenny Center provides Project Awards to promote and recognize preK-12 classroom action research projects in the area of peer teaching.
Deadline: Aug. 1.
Funds: $500 grants.
Eligibility: K-12 educators.
Areas: The project consists of gathering and summarizing data related to a professional question of interest to the teacher within the general area of peer teaching and learning in the classroom. However, preference will be given to projects involving the analysis of descriptions of individual differences in students’ teaching abilities; attempts by the teacher to improve students’ teaching abilities; or reflections by students on the motivations, rewards, and/or strategies of helping other students learn.

OSA Foundation
• Advance youth science education that provides children with access to science educators and learning materials through interactive classroom and extracurricular activities;
• Provide optics education and resources to underserved populations; and
• Provide career and professional development resources.
Deadline: March 1, and June 1.
Funds: Grants range is from $1,000 to $60,000; although, most grants awarded fall into the $1,000 to $10,000 range.
Eligibility: Nonprofit organizations, including K- 12 schools.

AAAS
Scope: AAAS requests applications for the Leadership in Science Education Prize for High School Teachers. The award recognizes high school science teachers for the development and implementation of innovative methods for teaching and encouraging the next generation of scientists.
Deadline: May21.
Funds: $1,000 award to support the development and continuation of the strategy, activity, or program. In addition, the winner will be invited to attend and make a brief presentation at the annual Shanghai International Forum on Science Literacy of Pre-college Students as a guest of the Shanghai Association for Science and Technology.
Eligibility: Currently employed 9-12 grade science instructors at a public or private school.
Areas: Science teachers must be nominated by their district (e.g., the science curriculum specialist), their state (e.g., the state science supervisor) or an administrator within their school (e.g., a principal) who is in a position to know the nominee’s work and to assess the extent of its impact on others.
