What is the Texas Scholars Program?
|
The new Texas Scholars initiative, Texas Scholars – High School and Beyond, focuses students on education and career planning during middle and high school and prepares them for the transition to life after high school. Students are encouraged to align educational programs with their plans for entry into the workforce, college or the military.
All Fort Bend ISD students are now required to take either the Recommended High School Program or the Distinguished Achievement Program. Beginning with the 9th grade class of 2007-08, to receive recognition as a Texas Scholar, students will be required to: -
Graduate from high school having completed the Recommended High School Program, and
-
Complete at least two college level courses

Why continue with the presentations?
|
Because this model has been so successful in the past, Fort Bend ISD continues to utilize presentations made by business partners in all of our district’s eighth grade classrooms. The strength of the presentations has been an interactive discussion format that includes starting salaries and a budget exercise presented by a “real life” business person. Students are always impressed by having someone – in addition to their teacher – talk to them in their classroom.
Presenters share personal experiences and stories that demonstrate the importance of students preparing now for post-secondary education including: the military, community college, technical college, and/or a four-year college or university, or the workforce. Students are encouraged to develop an individual plan for high school and the transition to college and other post-secondary options. We want Fort Bend ISD students to be prepared for employment opportunities that are rewarding and fit their interests and budget needs.
