Fort Bend ISD Announces 2009 Changes in the Student Success Initiative for Elementary Summer School

FBISD wants to offer the most effective intervention opportunities to 3rd and 5th grade students to help them pass state-mandated tests. A review of the district's past three-week elementary summer school offerings revealed that of the students who were eligible to attend, only half did, and for those that did attend the summer school, only about one-third passed the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS) test. Further research revealed that interventions should be provided throughout the school year with as much depth and consistency as possible to best serve our students.

Fort Bend ISD will launch Camp Accelerate for Summer 2009!

District leaders have high expectations for their students and thought it vitally important to offer a summer opportunity to provide additional support for those students who may need to take the July TAKS administration. With a three-week gap between the end of school and the third administration of TAKS, Camp Accelerate will offer eligible 3rd and 5th grade students engaging and motivational strategies and tools to help them continue to improve their skills. This summer camp will also help reconnect these students with the strategies they learned throughout the year so they will be best prepared to take the July TAKS test.

Information about Camp Accelerate will be provided to parents by elementary campus principals for 3rd and 5th grade students who are eligible to take the third administration of TAKS in July.
